Cane Series #27 - Rest During the Quest by #江戸門戸       The Cane Series: Among Heroes At first glance, this photograph appears to depict a gathering of costumed figures. Cloaks, boots, brightly colored props, and imagined identities occupy the frame. It is a scene of performance, transformation, and play. Yet the true subject lies closer to the ground. A cane rests diagonally across the stone pavement, temporarily separated from its owner. Unlike the surrounding costumes, it is not pretending to be anything. It has no role to perform. It carries no fantasy narrative. It simply exists as an object shaped by necessity, use, and lived experience. This tension between performance and reality lies at the heart of The Cane Series . Throughout the project, the cane appears in gardens, public spaces, moments of movement, waiting, reflection, and exploration. It functions as companion, witness, tool, artifact, and recurring character. Rather ...

Urban Brotherhood     Three faces. Three expressions. Three performances. The photograph works because happiness becomes repetition with variation. Laughter. Surprise. Smile. Like a triptych, each figure offers a different version of the same emotional commodity. In a culture obsessed with broadcasting experience, these expressions feel simultaneously genuine and performative. The bright clothing, saturated colors, and clean separation from the background create an almost pop-art sensibility. The image is about visibility. It is about being seen with friends. It is about the public display of connection. What makes the picture interesting is that it could be a memory, an advertisement, or a social media post. The boundaries have disappeared.   Soft Focus Generation A face emerges from grain and shadow like a memory refusing to disappear. The soft monochrome blur turns expression into atmosphere — less a portrait than the echo of a feeling. The hand against the forehead feels unguarded, almost accidental, while the distant half-smile suggests thoughts left unspoken. In black and white, the image abandons realism for emotional residue. It becomes about softness itself: fading moments, imperfect recollection, and the strange beauty created when clarity dissolves into mood.

That was a solid 3 in my photos. AI gave me a 6—three points higher than I deserved. Kind of disappointing, honestly, because it’s a 3-point up-level scale. But the technical side? It was real technical. So, I guess that’s pretty good. Totally subjective, though—and predictive AI is kind of ridiculous.

HOUSE SPARROW     Passer domesticus  PHOTO BY ED SCHOLZ 2026 This little pavement bandit appears to be a female or juvenile House Sparrow. The warm brown back, charcoal streaking, pale belly, stubby little seed-cracker beak, and pink legs are textbook sparrow architecture. Even the chunk of bread in its mouth feels painfully on-brand. Urban sparrows basically evolved into tiny feathered raccoons with better public relations. Trivia that feels almost fictional: the House Sparrow spread across the planet by hitchhiking alongside human civilization itself. Wherever humans built cities, dropped crumbs, raised horses, or spilled grain, sparrows followed like opportunistic little economists. In Victorian London they became symbolic of ordinary daily life — background noise with wings. Strangely, in some modern cities their populations later collapsed hard e...
